Furniture Stores in Costa Rica: What to Know Before You Buy
Esencia Living · 3/4/2026

Not all furniture stores in Costa Rica are equal
Whether you're furnishing a new home in Uvita, a rental in Jacó or a condo in Escazú, a little homework saves a lot of colones. Here's what to check before you buy.
1. Do they deliver to you?
Many stores only deliver within the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM). If you live on the coast, ask about delivery before you pay — and get the cost in writing. At Esencia Living we keep it simple: flat ₡8,000 delivery anywhere in Costa Rica.
2. Is it built for the climate?
Ask what the piece is made of. Solid wood, powder-coated metal and natural fibers survive the tropics; particle board and untreated steel don't. A slightly higher price for the right materials is cheaper than replacing a swollen cabinet in two years.
3. What's the warranty — really?
Consumer protection in Costa Rica exists, but chasing a warranty claim across provinces is no fun. Buy from stores that answer the phone (or WhatsApp) after the sale.
4. Can you see it in person or get real photos?
Catalog photos can be optimistic. Look for stores that show real product photos and honest descriptions — or better, a physical shop you can visit. Ours is in Uvita, near The Bakery, open Monday to Friday.
5. How do you pay?
Card, SINPE Móvil and bank transfer are standard. Be cautious with stores that only take cash for large orders.
